RMS, a MS Windows-based software program, allows users
to quickly and easily design safety systems that assess a runaway
chemical reaction and to determine the best and safest relief-venting
method. The design of emergency venting requirements for vapor,
gassy and hybrid systems can be made based on the Design Institute
for Emergency Relief Systems (DIERS) two-phase flow methodology
and its extensions. The RMS also includes a deflagration vent sizing
module applicable to both low and high pressure venting consistent
with latest NFPA-68 recommendations.
Other features of RMS include a user-friendly interface, benchmarking
against actual data and the ability to perform sensitivity analyses.
The software's design methodology also fully complies with the Occupational
Safety and Health Agency's regulation OSHA-29 CFR 1910.119 PSM.
